I didn't see any existing wire there--for the dash speakers--that'* why I ran speaker wire. There'* no way I could've missed them either, but anything is possible!

Yeah... in the '85 Toyota my family had, the sound system was gooooooolden alright. All factory;Technics head unit, Matsushita amp (Panasonic)... two rear 5x7'* and two front 4" speakers. Only 4, but this was wicked quality, not quantity.

Yea my SSE didn't have any factory wiring for speakers..... probably because the SSE didn't have them in the dash.

(mind you there are speakers there now... )

My wife'* LE has the speakers in the doors and nothing in the dash, want me to run out and yank a dash cover to see if the wires are there?

BTW it sounds REALLY nice for a stock factory system

Yeah, the older GM audio had large quantities of bass, but I always thought they were lacking some treble, our Sunbird was the same way...

... Newer GM audio isn't as good, the quantity of bass just doesn't seem to be there, and everything else sounds just muddier in terms of midrange and the highs. No amount of tweaking on a 2003 non-LS Malibu with optional audio or a 2001 Caddy STS with Bose audio made me satisfied. Way below expectations. But then again, for the Caddy, Bose is 99% overrated and overpriced.

Were the speakers in the dash on the '89 aftermarket perhaps?

Mine is an 88 SSE and i have
2 x Tweeters in the Dash
2 x 5.25 In the door
and 2 X 6x9 in the rear and all powered by an Alpine CDA-9831HU
and it sounds great for a Stock speaker setup, of course i
have the crossover set to 160hz so the speakers dont have
much bass to distort with but for highs they can keep up to
my 3 x 12" Kicker CompVR subs in my trunk pretty well .
( Anyone have a rough idea how much RMS the factory speakers
will take before they cook cause im getting a 4 channel soon enough
and am gonna change the speakers just a bit after but dont wanna
melt the stockers before i do, thanks)

My LE has the performance sound option, and it had no speakers in the dash. dident have wires either. It had twetters in the front doors, along with a regular speaker. and 2 speakers on the rear deck. 6 stock, and it seemed to have no bass what-so-ever.
Now it has new speakers in the Dash, the stock twetters, new door speakers, and new Rear speakers. With an aftermarker HU. sounds amazing to say the least.
