If it'* the air struts that have blown the air bag inside, and can't inflate/lift the rear end of the car up anymore, your best bet is stock replacements. Will it happen again over time? Of course, but we're talking another 10 - 15 years or so, just as it took that long for the originals to finally go out. Plus that'* one of the coolest features on the car (no *** dragging effect, even with a lot of people in your car/stuff in your trunk). Is your air compressor working?

If it'* the springs, same thing. Replace them with stock, or OEM quality springs, and you should be good to go again for a long time. No matter what you replace them with (aftermarket/performance parts - which I don't think they have for these cars), the same thing is going to happen over time. There'* no such thing as an indestructible suspension part. At best, it might last you a year or two longer.

Default struts

you can inspect the strut boots by jacking the A$$ end up and inspecting them.
If is small cracks in the boots black RTV will seal them. Just leave the car jacked up until it dries.
Sounds to me like your pumps not working or you would hear it on all the time if the strut was leaking.

Need a pump for an '89 SSE?!?!
Contact me, ...
I replaced both rear air units on our car a couple years ago, because they wouldn't hold pressure under extreme loads. (Like carrying home a couple dozen landscape blocks from the local store, ...)

But seriously, check to make sure your pump is even working. Open the hood, then open the trunk & push the 'On' button on the compressor to see if it cycles on/off.

Realistically, if the rearend is draggin', the pump should be runnin' all the time trying to bring it back up, ...

Check the fuse for the pump. Mine was removed when I got my car cause the rear struts had a leak in them.

Once I replaced the fuse, the pump started to work. It is not a loud pump at all, you have to be standing in front of the car with the hood open to hear it most of the time.
