Electrical Problem
Hi,
I have a '90 Bonne LE and found that my rear side running lights were fried after some water got into them through a leak. The sockets are ruined on both and I have removed them and taped them up. Now I'm not blowing fuses and all my lights work again, but now my lights (running lights and headlights) stay on even when the switch is off. I have checked and made sure that all fuses work, all the lights work and aren't burned out, and the switch is in perfect condition. I have done several other electrical experiments but with no results. Basically I'm just wondering if anyone has an idea of what it might be before I go crazy and tear out all the wiring and redo it all in a fit of constructive fury.
Thanks in advance for any info, I'm checking several sources and if I find an answer elsewhere I'll be sure to post it.

It doesn't seem like it could be related to the socket problem. I can see that the crusty sockets might have been blowing fuses, but not how the removal of them could cause your lights to be on all of the time.
Have you tried removing the wire leads from the switch (or however the wires attach to the switch, I've not been in there yet)? It sounds like the switch isn't really turning off when you turn it off (bad switch), or it could be that somewhere else in the wiring, the switch is being bypassed altogether (a kind of short, in other words).
Looking at the Haynes wiring diagrams, there is also a "lamp control module" somewhere. Not sure exactly what that does or where it is, but it might be worth looking into if the switch seems good.

Yeah, it'* definitely not the switch as I have removed it completely and the lights stay on... The dash lights go off when the dimmer is removed, but I believe there is something that can either control the lights over the physical switch, or there is a bad wire somewhere. I'll look into the lamp control module and see if I can find something there.

if i remember right, when you remove the switch, it leaves the lights in there currect state. so if your lights are on and you remove the switch they will stay on. if the "off"part of ur switch isnt making contact and leaving the lights on, thats why the lights are staying on after you remove the switch. Do you have twight sentil?

Well, I found out the problem and it was basically all wiring. A lot of random wires melted together and were shorted out all over my car. (Under the dash, near the steering column and another one I didn't find earlier at the tail.) Anyways not a lot of fun.

Acid..sorry I didn't see this post earlier... I might have suggested looking near the headlamp switch. I've seen similar on other model years.
