I was wondering what the MAX rpm is for the LE '88 bonnie (non SC) was?
I have heard 6500, but the tach says 5000 when I flo0r it, and let the car shift.
Ealier today though, I reved it up to 5500 while testing out the new TaCH.

Bad monkey! If you have the Series I engine, please dont try to rev past 5500, your valvetrain will hate and you and will one day get back at you. There is a reason rev limiters and fuel cut off'* are put on cars...... The Series II engines are good up to 7k rpm from the factory if you just changed the ECU tuning and such, but our fuel cut off is approx 6k or exactly 6k, depends one years I believe.

I wouldn't play "REDLINE" tag too many times or you'll find one day that you're going to need: 12 Valves, 6 Pistons and a **** load of other parts! All beacuse the chain broke & all the valves went through the pistons!

Tim, there were 2 engines offered in 1988. Read my post on 'verify timeline accuracy'.

I'd be curious to see which motor you had, and then what month your car was manufactured....sticker on the driver'* door edge.

I've done lots of timing chains on 3800'*. It'* cheap insurance as compared to a new engine! I've replaced mine in my 87 at 250,000 KM when I noticed guide parts in the oil pan. The chain in my 92 SE at was replaced at 140,000 KM by the previous owner befor I bought it.
