Default Resetting the Airconditioning System

How do you rest the air-conditioning system in 1991 Olds Regency 98? The compressor clutch will not engage. I thought it might just be low on refrigerant. The alternator was just replaced and the person that did it drew an arc, because the battery was still connected. Someone told me that the system might need to be rest after that.

With engine off, disconnect the battery. Wait a few seconds then reconnect. That should reset the ECM ( and your radio and clock).
