Default 1990 Dead again! Update, seems fixed!

Thought the crank sensor had it licked. Then it started acting up again, wife said it became difficult to start, requiring 11 attempts to get it to run, then about an 11 block drive home where it refused to restart.

Here is what has been touched/replaced

Spark plugs
Fuel filter
crank sensor
tried 2 different coil packs, both Magnavox (havent had time/money to get around to type 2 yet.)
Tach shows spark while cranking
Fuel pressure is approx 37psi (tested with my R12 AC gauge!)
ECM connections have been checked/de oxidized with De-Ox

Sometimes, it will promise to start, running REALLY rough and at a VERY LOW RPM, unresponsive to the throttle. If I crank with WOT, it will pop back thru the intake.

Wife says it ran fine once she got it started, got her home and when I came out to check it later, nothing

No codes stored in the ECM, but does flash the code 12.

Help save the Bonne, otherwise its an organ donor as soon as we can replace it $$$

I'd check for spark first. It was strange that your old ICM/coils were that hot & shouldn't have been oozing green goo.

Yes the plug wires are on correctly, checked that too LOL

I even threw the old coil pack/ICM back on just for grins, same results. Took the good coil pack from my brothers 90 LeSabre, same result.

I plugged a 194 lamp and socket into several injectors, got the blink, then removed the rail with lines still connected and gave it several short (REALLY SHORT) cranks and its spraying fuel. Didnt want a mess or fire hazard.

Is the tach movement indictive of spark? The tach shows cranking speed, unlike when the crank sensor was goofed.

Tach movement doesn't mean you're getting spark. I just put a spark plug wire on a spare plug & rest the base of the plug on something metal. Look for spark while someone trys starting the engine. Check each of the front three cylinders for spark.

If you get it to run, and you try to goose the throttle will it respond and or pop and backfire through the intake?

I would like you to do a test for me being that you have 2 of these bonnevilles... Both of them have the same Identical Computer in them.... Just for **** and giggles swap out the computer and see if it make any diffrence... Do not worry about the Mem-Cal chip, both of these cars should have the 2.84 gear ratio... See if the problems remain...

Let us know what you find
Don, I will try it if you think there isnt any risk to the good ECM, That car is my mobile office $$$ can't afford to have it down LOL. MrsCrzy has the car at work till after 4 anyways.

Ted, I will check for spark in the manner you described. Stay tuned

Spark is there but kinda dim and yellow. Going to throw the known good coil pack at it again, check the ground and try again

OK, took the ICM bracket off, scrubbed all the grounds with emery cloth, shined up the ICM where it contacts the bracket, reinstalled everything. Still have weak yellow spark, even at the coil tower. Had one new orphan spark plug, tried it as a tester, still a weak yellow spark. I am ready to start in on harnesses, didnt see anything pinched or damaged.
