Tranny Flush??
Well I have been putting this off since I got the car cause I didn't want to aggravate anything in the tranny.
The tranny shifts fine, at light throttle and also WOT. BUT the fluid is almost looking like half used engine oil and is feeling kinda thin-ish. I have heard too many times how people got the tranny flushed then a couple weeks later it blew. Usually one of the first things I get done on any vehicle I buy is change the filter and the tranny fluid. Seeing how my car was 14 years old I was a bit more leery about it.
Should I go ahead with the tranny flush?? Then get the filter and fluid changed again in 5,000 kms?????
Any thoughts on this one? Will??
OH BTW I also plan to rip apart a HD or 2 and put the magnets in the bottom of the pan on the inside since the pan has to come off the change the filter.

I don't think I would do an actual flush on it....Maybe just drop the pan, swap the filters...and top her off......I think a complete flush could be bad.

I don't know.. I say flush. Get some Seafoam Trans Tune [I used this stuff, improved my shifts right away]. Run that for 100 miles or so, and then do the flushing, using the instructions all around here [You know, disconnecting the cooler lines, running the tranny through the gears, and pouring in fluid until it comes out the colour you poured it in]. Run the magnets just in case.. they can't hurt . You will need 13-15 quarts of fluid doing the full flush.. just so you know.

I wouldn't do the flush on my own. It would be getting done on a real tranny flush machine.
As to just changing the filter. So you 2 ( Rogue and LakevilleSSEi ) figure just drop the pan change filter and change that fluid but no flush. Should I worry about anything?? I mean with the new fluid it will probably run at a bit higher pressure so would that not dislodge some crap that is stuck in the tranny?? Or would the tranny flush cause the same kind of problems. I mean with the flush it would get most of that crap out of there.
I guess I will still get some HD magnets to stick in there to be on the safe side. Also if I do this should I change the filter again in about 5,000 kms or so, or keep an eye on the fluid and if it gets dark again do it then?

If it were me, I would do just trans fluid. Addatives will "clean" out the debris (mostly old clutch material) and if its plugging you could develop leaks. Cleaner fluid will be higher pressure so it may blow out old seals as well. With high milage cars its recommend to just do filter and refil. If you do a flush you could develop trans issues within days or weeks.

I kind of figured I would develop issues within a few weeks that is why I didn't want to touch it in the first place, since the new fluid is going to run at a higher pressure. Just wanted to see if I should flush it at the same time.
So looks like I will change the filter, change the fluid, NO flush and I will however add a Hard drive magnet or two in there just because, LOL.
