Today when I turned my car off I could hear a noise coming from under the hood. It'* the motor right behind the drivers headlight. Isn't that the compressor for the self leveling rear shocks? When I turn the car to acc or on it stops. It'* just when I shut the car off that it keeps going. I had to unplug it just to get it to stop so I wouldn't drain my battery. I also drove short distance and didn't notice any differance at all. I don't do any towing or anything like that, do I even need it? Any thoughts guys.

It can run for 30-40 seconds when the car is off... It is independent of the ignition. But if it keeps running, you have a problem, like a broken level sensor or a hole in one of the tubes going to the struts. It appears that your car is not pumping up in the back, or it could be pumping up too high!

hey about this compressor for the struts. How often does it come on for you people? Mine comes on by itself about every hour or so maybe alittle more for about 10 seconds. My battery doesn't drain out cuz i can start it just fine after its been sitting for 3 weeks. I think it turns on less often now since I put a wire tie around one of the straps that holds the rubber part to the strut. There may have been aleak there.
Anyway, any feedback would be great.

So it must be loosing pressure somewhere in the system right? I just don't understand why it stops as soon as I turn the car on, and won't stop as soon as I turn the car off. I drove it to work last night and home this morning, I can't say I notice the slightest bit of differance at all. I think I'll just leave the damn thing unplugged

In my owner'* manual(or the dealer'* service manual--either one) it says once the key is turned--even if it isn't started-the air pump can/will run up to 10 mins--so that part of it is normal. It'* possible if one of the air lines has a leak--or the rod is messed up, that it will turn on and off intermittanly. As long as it doesn't drain your battery I think it'll be fine.
If you leave the pump unplugged the rear of the car will eventually sag and handle like crap.

Mine runs when my car is off sometimes. It depends upon the sensor. If it detects the back is too low, the system pumps it up.

I've never noticed it coming on routinely, though. That would indicate to me that there is a leak somewhere.

I have had mine disconnected for about 3 weeks and have had no problems but since someone said it might make my car handle like crap i think ill hook it back up today before driving it anymore since i took the 300 lbs of car parts out of my trunk it should not run as long as it was. ( up to 10 mins).

I've never noticed it staying on after I shut the car off before. It just started doing it a couple of days ago. I figured it would just go off by itself, but it stayed on for 45 minutes until I finally unpluged it. So how would I go about fixing this? Also I was thinking of lowering the car and if I did wouldn't that make the sensor think that the car is too low and therefore just keep the compressor running all the time anyways? if you lower the car, those struts should be coming out anyway so u shouldnt worry about that

I used to have a Typhoon that had the load leveling system on it also that I lowered. The system stayed on constantly! I trimmed the rod itself but it still stayed on--so much that it blew the fuse! I'm not really sure what you should do to the system once it'* lowered--but if you don't do something it will constantly stay on.
