Default Odometer question

Well on the new car, the odometer doesn't work, plus the compass and the DIC are flickering. I was thinking of simply taking the cluster out of the white SSE to put into the Grey SSE. Only problem is that there is a difference of about 30,000kms. Is there a way to roll UP the mileage so that I can have the proper mileage showing on the working odometer?

I am sure they are tamper proof to a certain point, SSEimatt93 was mentioning that it may have Grey lines between each number if I do that. Can I possibly roll up the mileage, still have it work properly, even with the lines between the numbers. I mean I don't plan to sell the car to anyone, next stop is the wrecking yard, since we plan to drive it to the grave.

you can remove the Odo and change it....I have 2 spare clusters with one cluster reading 3 miles (was at 130K) and the other reading 70K (was at146K) ....i have rolled both back and there is NO lines whatsoever.......take it apart and change it, you will have no problem with this

Rolling back odometers is illegal. You need a statement of mileage from the DMV for the offset.

agreed, but he could roll them back up, to match the milage that the car currently has.

I'm assuming and hoping that'* what he was getting at. Personally I don't see any harm in rolling an odometer to match a faulty one.

Rolling back an Odometer IS illegal. Tampering with it in any way CAN get you in trouble when you sell a car. Will it? Probably not. Just puttting this out there as part of the equation.

If your gages are flickering you have a bad connector, a break in the green wire harness, or a bad solder point. (try re-melting them).
I would try fixing it first, it may be something simple.

Yeah, I will check the connections first, if I get the cluster out today. As for the Odometer, I know that rolling BACK is illegal, but I want to roll it forward to match the mileage, since it the white car has 30,000 less on it, and I want that cluster in the new car.

If it'* digital the mileage is likely stored in the BCM or ECM. If it'* analog, you can swap the odometer to the new dash.
