Where is the Radio Amp?
On a 90 SSE, I believe there is a separate amp. Can someone tell me where I can find it since I no longer have FM and my teenager is tired of hearing the oldies on AM. When I switch it to FM there'* dead air. If you crank up the volume to its maximum you can slightly hear it. I've banged the dash fairly hard with my hand and it made no difference. Thanks!

The CDM Box has taken a ****
The CDM box has all of the functions of the Tuner, Amp and the like... You can have the CDM box rebuilt, Replaced or get another stereo like the one you have for parts... Or replace the stereo...
This is a common problem as the CDM boxes get older...
Also if you do replace the CDM Box or find a replacement for it, it will have to be from or for a 5 band Eq

This is the standard stereo for an SSE
what you see here is the top of the stereo, this is the CDM, also note me pointing to the CDM in the lower pic
The CDM box is held on the top of the stereo with 3 small bolts, and there is a connector plug in the front of the box that attaches to the back of the face plate... Its an easy swap if you can either find another 5 band eq stereo 87-93( I reccomend 92-93, Bonnies with the 5 band Eq stereos )... Either that or a refurb replacement CDM...
Hope that helps
Also, there is a Gain amp... But from what you have described the CDM has bought the farm in the sky

jr's3800 thank you very much for that detailed explanation. It has answered all my questions. If my son had his choice he would replace it with a new system that has a cd player so he can listen to the Chili Peppers. But unfortunately, there is no money in the budget, so unless I come across one, we're going to have to live with it.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

No problem...
I have been through several of the CDM'*... I have had the best luck with the 92-93 CDM... But some of the Delco stereos used that CDM through 96, but they are hard to find...lol
