Default Remote Keyless Entry

Does anybody know where the heck my remote keyless entry reciever on my '90SSE? i think it might be bad, because nothing related to the system works. Do i have to break out the duct tape?

After intense calculations, i have come up with this. at 6000 rpm, the cam was doing 3000 rpm. since the cam gear is about 6 inches across, i calculated the circumfrance and came up with about 28.3 inches around the gear. i multiplied that by 3000, and then by 60, and ame up with about 964 miles per hour that this magnet flew off at. thats mach 1.5. did i tear anything up when this magnet hit what it hit going 1.5 times faster than a bullet?

Your cam magnet code 41 prob only affects acceleration not overall driveablity of your car. I have posted many many stories about code 41 in this 87-91 forum...read up. As for the remote ask Shortstuf, he knows all about that, my "lowly" SE has a custom remote entry/starter dealy

I would assume it'* a bad keyring transmitter, not the receiver. Get a second, known-good one that'* correct for your car (probably any '90 GM model will do) and try programming your car to accept it. (Instructions are in TechInfo, aren't they? Anybody?)

The keyring transmitters can go bad, buttons quit working, that kind of thing. Sometimes you can take them apart and clean the contact pads, try a new battery, etc. I had to do mine every few years.

ok, have you tried to go into programing mode using the procedure in techinfo? some u have to connect a to b, and some you have to directly ground a. (ground B goes bad). if it wont go into the programing mode, u have other problems. the transmitter is most likely bad. the world of the 90' SSE keyless entry is very, very confusing!

Programming keyless entry for the 1990 models is Item 27 in TechInfo. What you describe above sounds more like the procedure for dumping OBD I error codes.

Anyhow, Item 27 looks like the instructions needed...

Having read that TechInfo item again, I gotta admit I don't totally follow it myself. On the '93 you jumper together the bottom left and upper right sockets of the ALDL connector (under the front edge of the dashboard) to put the Keyless Entry into Learn mode, but if that'* not how the 1990 models do it, then I think you need to find Shortstuff and ask for some clarification on those instructions.

The process always involves grounding a certain wire; you just need to find the right one. Grounding the wrong one usually just blows fuses (unless it'* the interior lighting circuit, in which case all the lights go on... )

here i am!

ok,
in your glovebox.
pull the tabs and drop the glove box down.
to the left of the glovebox, there is a little connector clipped on the side wall.
unclip it.
the two wires on connector are labeled A and B. you need to connect them together.
the locks should cycle, and the interior lights will come on.
press the unlock button on the remote.
the locks should cycle again.
YOUR REMOTE IS NOW PROGRAMED!

if ur locks never cycle, then u have a problem!

Just for yucks, check the ALDL connector under the edge of your dash. If you find two rows of ports, jumper the lower-left to the upper-right. (The upper-right port is just a convenient ground wire.) If the car cycles its power locks at you, you've found Learning mode and can continue with the rest of the 1993 instructions (which are pretty much the same as the 1990 instructions: press precisely one button on each remote that you are programming; remove the jumper when you are done).

If your ALDL connector is not a two-row design, um... I've heard of a green connector in the trunk on some 1980s cars...

Heck, this can't be too hard to figure out. Anybody else here with a '90 Bonne who can help...?
