90 Lesabre sometimes cranks but doesn't start
As the topic says, sometimes when I go out to my car, it will crank just fine, but will not turn over, however when this happens it will start on the second try. Additionally it feels like its missing at idle and stumbling sometimes, all while getting maybe 17 mpg combined. I know this isn't right, and the best I've returned on my highway trips has been 24mpg, good for an old car, but not for a 2.84 3800. I have to assume these problems are from my car sitting and getting little use. I have replaced the ignition module, coil pack (magnavox), fuel filter, and ECM. I have ordered an AC delco oxygen sensor, but I think I need a little bit more help. It'* really a shame to have the car struggle like this, because it seems like its in such good shape. For the starting troubles, could it be a crank sensor maybe?

How old are the plugs & wires? You'll want to check for vacuum leaks also. I had a major leak around the PCV valve. The rubber grommets at both ends of the PCV were hard as a rock & not sealing.

I forgot to say the starting issue could be fuel pressure related. Try turning the key to the run position for a few seconds before starting.

Maybe there is leak down of fuel pressure. Next time you start it turn the key to the "on" position for few seconds before cranking the engine. There are so many little relays and things that could, maybe have deteriorated over all those years of so little use.

PCV grommets have both been replaced, I forgot to mention, I have tried letting the fuel pump prime for a few seconds before cranking, no difference. Its so frustrating, being completely random, so when I take it to be looked at, they think I am crazy. I also checked the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line, there was no fuel leakage. I do not know the age of the plugs and wires, but they can't be original, probably they need to be replaced, which is a good thought, but what else might be happening?

I would go ahead and do plugs and wires, since you dont know how old they are or at least pull plugs and check them .You should check the fuel pressure.

big day today, started with top engine cleaner, then oil change, followed by installing new oxygen sensor and plugs and wires. Car feels much much better now, maybe stronger, but who knows, it could be my imagination.
