Alright, my turn-signal lever kinda broke, see the pics. I managed to get hold of a spare broken one. Problem is: how do I change this thing? How do I pull off the steering wheel?

I do have a GM factory-service manual for my Bonnie, as well as a tool to pull the steering wheel. But how do I get to the bolts to pull?

Any advise is greatly appreciated

You have to pull the steering wheel. Pop off the Steering Wheel Buttons. You will see the big ol' bolt to pull off of. Then a ring gear thingy [i don't think that is the name], you need one of those too. Once you have that off, it comes off fairly straight forward.. except I don't know where the wiring plugs/unplugs. That'll be your journey.

Thats my problem - how? I am scared to damage the controls on the wheel...

Take a screwdriver, insert under buttons [NOT buttons, but the **** it'* mounted to.. the thing underneath. It'* best to do it on the curve of the opening like on the bottom or the top. Mine came right off after 16 years of sitting.. so if it takes a lot of force, you are probably doing it wrong.

im not 100% sure on where your break is but i dont think you have to go to the trouble of steering wheel colume disassembly, i broke my turn signal lever a few years ago when my shorts got caught in it and i heard a snap, about the same place as your pic, turns out the lever it self has a metal rod on the inside and plastic all around, jugdeing by your pic it looks like just the lever is broken, not the actual switiching mechanism in the colume that moves. If just your lever is broken all you have to do is yank it straight out, pulling it quickly and firmly and it will pop out. be sure to disconnect the electrical connection first so you dont ruin that wire. Push it straight in to install the new one.

if the break is just the lever itself, i think this is what you want to do. If the break is the actual moving turn switch in the columne then disregard above

Thanks for the hint, you are right: only the lever itself is broken. But to access the little electrical cable I think I have to disasseble the steering wheel column :(

just a little disassembly is needed luckily you know lever that makes the steering tilt? look below it and you will see an outline on the steering colume. thats actually a separate removable cover so the cable and the switch can be serviced. It should pop out in your hand by wiggleing it off. once off you will see the connector you need to disconnect. if memory serves me it should be a four wire connector.

I've never been able to access the connector through those little things. When I was troubleshooting my lack of Cruise Control, I tried testing the switches that way, but it didn't work out so well. But, that'* no reason for you not to try to get to the connector. I do know, that there are exposed wires.. so it should be possible. If you want to learn.. [like me] just take the long way out, and remove the steering wheel [you can get the tools at Autozone for free, but you need to leave a deposit] and replace it from there.

But just as I took her for a spin to see if the cruise control is working, the thingy for the wiper mist broke This is my second lever on which this thing broke, damn. Here is a pic of the old one where the plastic thingy broke at the exact same location on the new one:




So I need another multi-function lever w/ cruise and wiper delay...

Okay, I fixed one of these before, not on my Bonne, but if you're really careful it could still work on this application.

What you'll need is some good epoxy and some of the high strength fishing line (SpiderWire, Firewire, Ironthread, etc). You only want about the 4-6 pound stuff, the thinner the better.

Glue the part back together with the expoxy. Use as little as possible. This won't be enough in itself to last for any length of time, it'* just to "set it" for the rest of the procedure.

Once that has set enough to be able to handle the part, paint a very thing coat of the expoxy over the crack and surrounding are (maybe 1/4 inch on each side) Avoid any moving parts with a passion!! Start winding the fishing line around the wet epoxy. try to make it one layer, then go back with another layer. Every other layer you'll want to paint on another very thin coat. # or 4 layers should be plenty, tho.

Let this completely cure (24 hours or more). You will then have a kevlar patch that shouldn't break ever again...
