Default Fog Light Wiring

Hey...

My stock fog lights were all smashed up so instead of getting new ones (couldn't afford) I decided to try and fix the old ones. I took them apart, and in insides literally fell to dust, so I am left with the bracket. I bought some cheapie blazer lamps, and I gutted them. It turns out that it'* insides fit inside the stock brackets.

Sooo, my question is this. I want them to be controlled by the stock switch inside the car. The new lamps only have a red wire (which connects to the stock wiring fine) but they have no black wire. So what do I do with the black one from the stock wiring?

Thanks for the help! I'll take some before and after shots once they are done...I have to sand a spray paint the brackets as well...

Yep, just one wire coming from the light. Thats what I figured...

It comes with others however...the red ones from the lamps both go to the + on the aftermarket switch, one ground from the switch, and one that is supposed to go to the fuse box or some 12v line. So...anyone have any suggestions on where exactly to put the black ground?

My fogs are grounded to the case. There is also a ground for it through the harness, but it is very apparently grounded to the case.

I'm sure theres only one.

So I'll just find somewhere on the case to ground it...does anyone know how it was done stock exactly? The black wire on the stock unit as one of those connectors on the end (the flat metal plate deal). My lights fell apart before I could examine them..

Yep, looks just light mine. It'* already grounded to the case. Give it 12v from the battery [from that little wire] and see if it turns on.

That screw that is used to hold the bulb in place is fine for the ground. I did the exact same thing with mine. Bought some blazer lamps and gutted them. Used the white wire and added a terminal onto the black wire on the harness from the car and used that screw. Work great.

Awesome. I think you were the one whose post I read about the blazer lights while sifting through fog light threads, which gave me the idea.

The second coat of paint will go on the brackets before I go to bed. Sometime tomorrow I should have the lights finished.

Heres the "before" picture. Theres nothing but rust and broken glass inside them.

Today was a good day for the Bonne. Hassle free O2 sensor installation, new/rebuilt foglamps, and a cleaned IAC. Everything worked great.

Completed foglight. I grounded it to that screw as suggested and it works great.

Front of the car (I just got a car wash like 2 days ago and look at the poor thing... )

Thanks for the help!
