Default Dash cluster lighting

My car, a 91 LeSabre, has the full dash, the tach, all guages, etc. The backlighting is green at night. The same for the electronic touch climate controls.

I'd like to change the color to red. I'm not sure if the Bonneville has red lights or not, (i know the second gens do) but am i able to change my lights to any different color? What about LED'*?

Green is a bit old looking for me. It also clashes with the color of my car too, lol. Gotta love the interior colors they offered back then, lol.

Still though, i am open to any ideas, anything that'll wow me, or just if the color can be changed. See my cardomain page if you want to see what my cluster looks like, no night pictures though.

Thanks ALOT fellas!

Default dash

You could look into changing the bulbs if you could find a different color or aftermarket dash kits from companies like Speedhut.
Got an indiglow kit installed on our Supra, looks cool at night.

The bulbs in the bonneville dashes are white, i know i've had mine apart several times. The red is actually a coating on the back of the gauges themselves. To change to red you'll probably have to scrape the green coating off the gauges then guy red bulbs or led'*. Idk though the buick may just use green gel caps over the bulbs and have white gauges normally.

I don't recall for sure how the LeSabre lights are. I know on my 6000 STE, it actually has the orange capsules over a regular white light bulb, but the majority of the gauge clusters are the way alec described. HOWEVER......the LeSabre T Type got the full gauges just like the regular LeSabres that were equipped with that option, but in ORANGE! Direct swap, and the easiest route to go with. They pop up on eBay from time to time.

yeah my bonne has all red backlighting, as far as i know, it has white bulbs, with red coloring. So yeah just scrape the green like alec said and replace bulbs with red, if possible. But it would be kind of cool of we could change the color at the flip of a switch.

I'll see if I can get some night pictures, and maybe search the yards too.

What haro is getting at is that the bonne cluster...the red is part of the film that the cluster face is made from. Very tough to change (haro did it though). Your coloring is probably part of the facing and not easily changed.

The clusters use somthing called a light pipe, which is that orange red. There is only one bulb in the Bonne cluster that actually has a red bulb, which is right over the odemeter 87-91, 96-99 use more orange red bulbs than light pipes, not sure about 92-95.
your best bet may be somthing aftermarket, but my frined had a Lesabre- almost identical to yours. I ask him the next time I see him.
