Default Andy Blew a Rod

Andy, a new user here with the '91 Olds 98, blew a rod in the engine after 197K. It'* strange hearing this on a 3800.

It really sucks for him, he is probably just going to get a new engine.

Has this ever happened before to any of you?

See it happen a couple of times. This happens if you IGNORE the Low Oil Pressure Alarm & continue driving the engine hard. First the bearing goes, then the rod blows apart from the crank when the bearing finally seizes up unto the crankshaft journal. It MUST have been "Knocking" beforehand, but owner might have chosen to ignore it or didn't recognize it knocking. Most usually catch it before this happens. The usual fix was a new rebuilt crank kit & new/used conn. rod.

That'* what happened. This car was making a terrible knock. He told me to look at it, but I don't have any mechanical experience. I knew something was very wrong, so I told him to get it looked at. And sure enough, the rod went.

BTW, this car had many problems before. I think the past owner didn't take care of it very well, and when it was bought 3 months ago, it wasn't given a proper tune up and check up.

Why did he even buy a car with an engine knock in the first place?
That alone should have set off ALARM BELLS!

Yea I know...

Supposedly, it was fine when it was bought. It wasn't properly inspected.
