Default Powered Moonroof

I have been thinking....

A friend of mine recently had a sunroof installed on his car. He went to our local Ziebart and had it done for about $700 or so, the exact cost escapes me at this point.

Anyway. I would really like to have a powered moonroof, complete with fully retracting glass. The glass/seals are guaranteed for 1 year. The Bonneville that I have has no ceiling mounted light fixture, so it should be easy to do.

Apparently they use 2 inches of ceiling space in the car in order to install the proper electrical housings, motor, wiring etc.

Is this a good idea? Has anyone had a aftermarket moonroof installed?. How much should I prepare to spend? I like the idea of the moonroof more then the sunroof, simply because of the elegance factor. And its going to be electrical...one button up in the ceiling mounted light console that houses the fog lamp switch.

Any feedback would be sweet...

Ya, I want to do it, but its a daunting task. Its risky too. If I was to do a moonroof, the additonal drain lines and seals and gaskets and wiring..sheez its a lot of work. And if they do shoddy work, the rust factor comes into play

However if the work is done correctly and the warranty is decent. Then its a go.

I would prefer the moonroof over a sun roof however. Simply because of the retract option. It can pop up for ventilation or slide back for the full effect.

We'll see, I'll keep ya posted on what comes down over the next little bit
