I used to have an old '78 Grand Prix that was dented on every side except the roof, but it was stolen twice in two years for some reason. It would have cost more than the car was worth to put an alarm system in it, so instead I just wired in a 12-volt LED from Radio Shack so that it would go on when I switched the car off, and no one messed with it after that.
But the first theft was pretty entertaining: The car had a junkyard trans in it with the wrong speedo gear, so it read about 15 mph slow. The two morons who stole it to go to a party 30 miles away thought they were minding their own business doing 55 mph on the Interstate at 2:00 a.m., but in actual fact they were blowing through state police speed traps at 70+ mph. Busted! Cops took one look at the broken steering column parts all over the floor and hauled them off to jail.

I did a search. It seems several large cities have Bonneville listed as number nine, including Houston and Nashville. The list I was previously talking about I saw an msn.com. Who knows where they get there numbers.

(2:30 a.m. in the morning... the phone suddenly starts ringing and ringing...)
*grumble* *snork* "Hello...?"
"Hello, this is the Elgin police department; is this Mr. Green?"
(pause)
"This is the what?"
"This is the Elgin police department; is this Mr. Green?"
"Um, yes...?"
"Do you know a Julio <something-or-other> and a Jesus <something-or-other>?"
(pause)
"Who is this again?"
"This is the Elgin police department. Do you own a 1978 Grand Prix?"
(pause)
"Um, yeah, but it'* my fiancée'* car and we're getting married soon so the car is down at her parent'* place right now and..." (totally rambling by now and completely not understanding what the heck the police would calling me for...)
"Sir, do you know a Julio <something-or-other> and a Jesus <something-or-other>?"
"No."
"Okay, well, we picked them up on the Northwest Tollway in your car. Did you give them permission to drive it?"
"Noooo..."
"Was the steering column of your car damaged in the past?"
"NOOOO!!!"
Insurance paid off, car was fixed up, the Bad Persons that they arrested managed to skip bail, to practically no one'* surprise including the police, and life goes on.
