OK, now my OTHER LE has decided to throw tantrums. Guess it was jealous of all the ramp time mine has been getting.

Engine will stall, refuse to restart. It will crank just fine, no tach pulse. If you let it sit, it will run again till it heats up. (about the time it took wife and I to walk 3 blocks and pick up the other LE to nerf it home with. I might add its been REALLY hot here, daily highs in the 100'*

So my possible suspects are,

ECM
ICM
Crank Sensor
Oil Pressure sender (gauge has been jumping around erratically lately.)

I think I will get that Type 2 setup from the wrecker tomorrow! Will a 92+ ECM work in a 90 LE? Just to have a spare for testing? I realize that an OBD 2 will NOT work in this car.

Sounds like a ICM failure. Pick up the Delco packs like you said and give them a try.

And no, a 92+ PCM will not work in your '90. It is a totally different setup for electronics, along with the engine being different.

I'm leaning toward the crank sensor but it could be either. Next time it quits you could try squirting some water on the sensor & see if it fires up. A little water shouldn't hurt anything down there.

Got out there just now, since the engine had cooled. Pulled the ICM off, it was still WAY hotter than the rest of the engine. When I got it on the bench, I tried to seperate the coil from the ICM, there is this bright green goo sticking the whole mess together. Not sure this is normal LOL, it has a foul odor too.

Since I was going to do the Delco swap on my car anyways, guess I will postpone him and do hers first. If the problem persists, I will try the water on the crank sensor as a troubleshoot.

Is the goo a normal thing?

i THINK theres a goo thats supposed to be in there somewhere, im not sure tho. id replace the whole assembly with a delco one tho, get it over with cuz another magnavox is gonna fail not too long after replacement, my new napa magnavox didnt last 6 months.

Ted gets the cigar, it seems. I swapped the ICM with one from my brothers little stash of good 3800 stuff. Thought it was all good, daughter and I loaded up to go somewhere, 2 blocks away it died again! finally got it restarted and back home. Picked up a crank sensor, swapped it, and drove around for about 30 mins and let it idle another 30 or so. So far so good.

still got the type 2 upgrade on the plate for sooner rather than later.
