The first thing I suggest for you is to have the alternator plugged to see the amps actual reading how it is charging then search for the ground wire to the block to see if it is loose... If the meter goes crazy when you touch this...bingo! you have a poor ground contact.
very common on our cars due to aging the wiring system is getting loose or corrosion is causing bad contact to the mass.
try that and let me know.
