Default No 3rd or OD engagement

This is extremely weird.. and makes no sense to me.

I have 1st and 2nd gear, slip free. Perfect engagement, all that great stuff. But once i get into 3rd gear or OD, it slips. Now i'm not talking about on the gear selector, I am talking abotu the physical gears. I made sure I have proper fluid levels. I tightened up the vacuum modulator all the way. Still no different. Slips completely no power to the ground. What is causing this?

I would have to say that your tranny is on it'* way out the door.

It starts with that then will probably get worse from there.

question-how much gas are you giving it, could that have something to do with it?

also, have you checked the fluid?

I'm beginning to believe that this is the failure of my transmission, but I don't believe it is even engaging.

The fluid level is supposidly full.. but you never know with these damn transmissions. I drove the car, then parked her, and ran her through all the gears, and it was still a good 1/3 in the cross-hatched. I'll check it again tomorrow and maybe add another .5quarts or something.

This is with very little throttle. but see the transmission doesn't just slip, it does not engage. The engine just revvs freely. But 1st and 2nd gear are flawless, slip free. I really don't know what is up with the transmission. It'* bullshit i tell you, pure bullshit.

i don't feel the transmission engage, btw. Like it just goes from 2nd to neutral.

That sucks... If you watch the papers though, sometimes you see trannies for these cars for cheap. sometimes even with engines.

this is the exact problem i had with the first tranny in my 90 SSE. it was fine at first, then i lost 3rd+4th. it would drive just fine if i left the selector in 2. then it got to the point where it would only do 1+2 when the fluid was cold. it would be like it was in neutral once it got warm. turned out all the clutch plates had melted together....

wow, such great news for me.

in the fsm when it says 'no 2-3 shift' does that mean the car stays in 2nd gear and never upshifts, or is it something like my problem?

well what ended up happening was it lost 3+4 first. they melted together. then the 3+4 melted into the 2nd gear.so there was 1 and 234. then they all just melted together making it so it would shift the 1-2. then die when warm
