Default A slight overheating / Fan takes to long to come on!

Hello Bonnie famz,

I have a small (hopefully) problem with over heating. Driving in New York City, there is a lot of stop and go, in which I know can cause some slight warm temperature readings on my gauge :? . The electrical fan will not activate until my gauge is almost at three quarters reading. What could be my problem? Coolant temp. sensors going bad, or is my ECM going bad? . Also how many coolant temp. sensors are on our vehicles?

Once again, thanks for any input, One. .

no problem.....Just the factory PCM setting. I dunno how easy this would be or how to do this with your car, but with my 95 I wired in a PCM bypass switch for the high speed fans. I don't go over 185* anymore on the freeway or stop and go

The fan in my '87 comes on about 3/8'* of the way up the gauge (right between 1/4 and 1/2). I don't know why but my car never runs hot. And it'* got a crappy radiator.

i believe that the cooling fans run at 2 speeds. are you sure that the fan is not running at all, and that maybe what you are hearing is it going from low to high? it is interesting though, ours would come on just after half way on the gauge.

1/2 on the gauge sounds about right. I believe that'* when mine kick in. Mind you my gauge rarely goes past 1/4. So she doesn't really need the fans. I believe both turn on once the car sees 1/2 on the gauge, but I don't know for sure.

could just be a varience in our gauges or something. sounds about normal now that I think about it.
