Default Smoked a new blower motor?

original blower motor went out a few weeks ago, I replaced it with a cheapie made by Seimens. It had blown a couple of fuses the last several days. Today I started up, and it made a strange groan, while heavy thick smoke poured outta the vents! I panicked, shut off and quickly disconnected the battery with pliers.

After making sure that nothing was on fire and letting things cool a bit, I unplugged all the HVAC connectors, reconnected the battery and came home.

New Blower motor is SMOKED totally. I already picked up a warranty replacement, same brand. Resistor is fine, fuse did NOT trip this time. Before I plug in this new one, is there anything else I need to check that could be taking out the blower motor in this fashion?

Update, I went ahead and checked alt output, 14.47 volts, thinking that overvoltage caused it.

Taking a deep breath, I plugged everything in and reinstalled the fuse, its working again, gonna stink like burnt wire for awhile, and I might park it away from the house and anything else valuable tonite LOL.

Default alt

What is the Alt gage reading at idle. It should slowly creep down to just right of the 12 o'clock position or the regulator is bad.

I'd say that you just got "lucky" and had a bad blower. I can't think of any fault in the car that would produce enough voltage to smoke a good motor. The motor probably had some shorted windings, or bad bearings.

14.4 -14.6 volts is normal with nothing on. Any more or less, there is something wrong, or there is a load.
