Default Transmission Issues

I see there are a few conversations about this going on, but I'll post my issue too, as it'* a bit different.
My Car slams into first gear, and glides through all the others, even on the downshift it seems fine until it gets back to first and then it jolts.
When I say slams, I mean, the car hesitates, then jumps forward into the gear making a kinda weird and scary noise. Sounds like metal banging on metal.
If I leave the light like grandma, it'* not really there at all. Driving normally with the traffic it does it bad, and I haven't attempted to punch it to see what happens.
It'* a GM rebuilt trans, 4 years ago.....car has almost 280k, I;ve had it for 2 years, and never touched the tranny.
Ideas? Just a service? Or...time to find a new bonnie?

Tranny flush, transtune first. I had a similar issue [minus the metal banging, upon 1st gear engagement, and only 1st gear], and that was fixed for the most part with the transtune. If the metal banging continues, chances are the tranny is going out. The only thing you can do, is put some Hard Drive magnets [get old hard drive, pull magnets from it], and put them on the outside of the pan. Other than that, just take it easy on her. The tranny will last for a while still, as long as you don't beat the crap out of it.

I say get rid of it and I want the taillights and headlights if they are in good shape, I will even drive there to pick them up.LOL

Actually if it is that bad and you never had the tranny serviced then you will want to at least change the filter and fluid and I did the Hard drive magnets on my car just before leaving on Monday, so I will see if they are still there when I get back in town ( I don't get to drive the car during the week, my other half does.) But even if you service the tranny and the tranny is on it'* way out, depending how bad the fluid is the boost in pressure from new thicker ( not broken down ) fluid MAY push it over the edge but on the other hand it may help it.

This happened to me. I had to install a used tranny. Although when I would floor it it would downshift and grab so hard it would spin the tires. And I am pretty sure that was because of whatever was wrong. With the new tranny this does not happen.

I went right up to the GM dealer.
They flushed out and changed the fluid, and gave me a new filter.
They also told me I needed 2 motor mounts replaced. I got all that done, and it'* good as new. Thanks Guys!
