Default You can gut the airbox on LN3'*!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just took the top section off the stock airbox on my 1990 SSE out and realized there was a baffle in there -it didn't stay for very long since I had a large flat screw driver in my hand. Took all of about 1 minute to get it all knocked out.
Haven't started the car to see if it sounds any different -if it does it'* probably not really noticable as the box is still rather small.
As for power gains from it -maybe 1/2 hp at the most.

Anyhow, this is just an FYI for those who might me wondering if this was possible.

I knew it was possible.. but the airbox just flat out sucks real bad, so like you said, the performance increase is little to none. Best to just get a CAI for our gen.

I don't know about the CAI, but I took her around the block without any intake parts [just up to the MAF Sensor Body]. That made a HUGE difference in performance. I didn't throw her around, because I had just done something [can't remember what, and was too lazy to put the airbox back on]. Plus I really hate driving her without an airfilter.

You know, in all my time here, I never bothered to figure out what a gutted airbox really looks like. :?

Have always felt that the air filter used on the "C" engines was much too small. In later years the Bonne went to a A1096C and the V6 Aleros I get occasionally use an A1279C (I mention that one because it it not only much larger than ours but it also used a kind of over-the-shoulder airbox that would probably fit in our engine compartment.

Has anyone fitted one of these larger/later airboxes to a "C" engine ?

I doubt it would work, because doesn't the airbox sit right where our compressor is? Isn't that why they moved the compressor in 92?

I believe so.
I am going to look into moving the air pump to the stock 92 location and add a 1992 air box I have here because I don't intend on putting a CAI in for selling the car.
