DIS HO?
Ok, so my baby is finally mine! my mom bought her '04 yellow beetle yesterday, and now that school is going to be out in 10 days [not that i'm counting], I am going to need to start working on ol' pearl, and my first upgrade is a new ignition system since the crap in it is from so long ago, i bet the ignition system is untouched since '98. Well I have it all planned out, except one thing. There are two variations to the MSD DIS igntion control boxes, the regular and the "HO" and in their 2004 catalog, they state " The HO version is RACE ONLY!" well, i'm not racing, but i want all my fuel to light off, and so what i'm asking is what if I where to put that in there? Would I blow my 150,000 mi engine? will i get better mph? or is it not worth the 10 or 20 bucks extra. Because 20$ isn't too much when your looking at 500$ anyways.

Read my article and get thee to thy jardin de junque. This is the same ignition used in the L-67 and is a bolt-in replacement for the Magnavox.
A set of decent plug wires and Delco Rapidfire #14 plugs (now available in qty 6 from gmpartsdirect ) would give you all the ignition you need for a decent price.

read what i have in my sig, you dont want HO. the regular DIS-4 seems to be well worth it... I dont know if i would go that route unless you plan on doing alot of other things to it. what padgett suggested may suffice and make your wallet alot happier.

well, I think the only reason i'm going for the MSD ignition box and not some other company or the route padgett suggested is the rev limiter, I could really use that just for show, ya know? open up the exhaust, throw 'er in neutral, rev the engine and let the rev limiter kick in and have the sweet sound! now that'll scare off any crappy poseur cars and leave the good ones to have their ..... handed to them. Also yes I know it is expensive but I think the money is well invested, because I'm thinking over the two year time period i'm going to spend probably 2-3 grand on the car and 5 with air suspention, which won't happen.

i'm too scared to go to 5700rpm, and I don't think it would sound as cool with this method as an ignition rev limiter.

"C" motors make max torque at 2000-2100 and run out of breath around 4700. Is why you can have a 1400 rpm/50 mph cruise. 5000 rpm is also a good way to throw cam magnets.
Factory cuts the fuel because raw gas in the exhaust does nasty things to the cat.
