If the alarm is failing it might effect the start, if that'* hooked in to it. Is there a plug you can pull to test it? Being a aftermarket it makes it much harder for us to find and correct the problem. Check your owners manual to see if there are any documentation in there. You might end up tracing all wires to where they connect and removing them to return the car to how it was before the alarm was installed.

so far i've yanked one of the cables but I can't seem to find the source. do you really think if i yanked all of the cables it'd simply go back to working again?
and what do you mean if the alarm is failing? you mean if the alarm is going off?

Yanking wires is a bad idea. You need to trace them to where they are connected and then return to stock. If a wire is cut so one end goes to the alarm and the other returns you will need to connect them back together. I really don't know enough to give you these answers. I simply don't have enough information. If we knew the brand we would have a much better idea what to do. Wish I could do more. Is there perhaps a switch that'* gone bad preventing the alarm from knowing you have turned it off?

After market alarms are goofy. I would not recommended just pulling wires, because you'll be no better off than you are now and could be worse for wear. You'll have to spend some time chasing down wires or haul the car off to an auto alarm install shop and pay them to trouble shoot it. The reason it'* not starting is that the started relay is probably being by-passed by the alarm system. Unless you can get the alarm system to recognize that you are not stealing the vehicle, then the relay will not be energized and thus - no starty. Like Danthurs said...chase down the wires. The main alarm system is probably up under the dash, or under the seat.

problem resolved: it was a clifford alarm and i ended up finding the brain, yanking it, and connecting the ignition and starter cables back together
