just replaced the ecm with a delco remanufactured one i was lucky enough to pull from a 89 se at the yard with 180,000 miles..
well the car stoped surgeing for now but the rpms still go up to 6500-7000 rpms so i think i have to go back tomorrow and get a gauge cluster..
is that all it could be if its not the ecm.?

i really dont want to spend another $25-$30 on the cluster if thats not the problem with my rpms...
i was told by a reputable person that my rpms go up because it sounds like a bad trans slip in 1st...
could it be the trans or not because other people are saying my car could never hit 6500 rpm.* without tearing itself into peices...
im very :? and if i dont get a reply by 9 am tomorrow i will head to the yard to get a gauge cluster in hopes that its the issue.. thanks

code 42. est.. ignition module.
i put the new ecm and it still ran with a slight problem...
when i first start the car and put it in drive or reverse and i step on the gas it will hesitate for 5 seconds or so as if its running out of gas but its a new fuel pump, filterand a full tank.. so today it started doing it more and then it put on the check engine light....
so i checked and got code 42- electronic spark timing..faulty ignition module.
i just put on a new ignition coil module a year ago at the most.. brand new..
and i have a upgrade icm and coil'* from a 93 but i dont have the screws to hold the coils to the module.. i lost them .
would you'* think my ignition module is crapping out again or might it be something else.. the connections ae clean and tight...
also would anyone have the screws for the ignition coils to go to the module.? i would pay for them.. i really have no time to go the the junk yard at all lately before they close at 4 pm...

If the ICM came from autozone or the like, then its very possible that its going out. It can be removed and tested for free at places like autozone... but their testing abilities aren't always the best.
Go to a junkyard and grab the Delco coil setup... or just the mounting studs in your case. That might fix your problem.
Have you checked your fuel pressure? Could be the fuel pressure regulator since you've got a new pump and filter.

o.k so i did the icm swap/upgrade and i am still having the surging problem and im still getting code 42..?
i puzzled.. why still get the code if i changed the icm and tne coils.....
it actually feels like i stepping on off on off on off on off on off on off on off on off of the gas.. just like that but longer.. it so embarrising that people actually point and laugh like im doing it on purpose...
any ideas what else could throw off code 42...?
i already replaced the engine wire harness.....
