90 Bonneville SSE

90 Bonneville SSE
Hi. I have a 90 SSE with a terminal transmission problem and a found an 89 Oldsmobile H body as a donor car. The owner of the car offered to either sell me the transmission or the whole car at a decent price. My question is whether there are enough interchangeable parts that would fit on the Bonnie to make that deal worthwhile. Or should I just scoop the transmission and run?

Depends what condition the car is in and what he wants for it all. A running engine may fetch you $350, perhaps less with high mileage. If you have the shop space, you can strip the car, keep what you need and take the rest to a scrap yard. With the parts separated you can make good money. But it is a LOT of work stripping a car. A salvage yard may want $500 for a transmission, so you may be in good shape there.

I guess it still comes down to how many parts are interchangeable between the two cars. If I can get a boxful of spare parts out of the deal for a couple of hundred bucks, then it'* worth considering. If I grab the transmission and end up with nothing else useable, it'* just not worth it to have the Olds sitting around the place.
