89 LE: Stutter right before shifting into second gear
Hey guys,
I'm a firefighter, and there are times at night [like when it'* cold now] that I get a call and just go, no warming up, no nothing. I know it'* rough on the car, but I have no choice. Today though a problem just started occuring and I don't know what'* causing it. I already know that if I am gunning it I have a long shift from 1st gear to 2nd gear. Well now, you hear the rpm'* going up, then at about 4000rpm it stutters really quickly, then you hear the rpm'* continue to go back up and then the shift at about 5000rpm... What'* causing that? I'm hoping it'* just a thing that happens in the cold, because I can't really open my hood to do anything. =(

First off, you need to fix the hood issue. Then, you need to check the condition of your tranny fluid. If you have never changed it, now is the time to do it. Read up on some of the other tranny posts in this forum on making an educated guess on what to do. You may be able to play a trick on a tranny shop, by bringing your car, and them not being able to pop the hood . <-- say they broke it.

Sounds like you already have a problem but since you cannot warm up (even 30 seconds will help) , at least use a block heater to keep the oil warm - they make ones that just replace the dipstick. Also use no more than a 5W- oil, synthetic may help here.
