Default '89 LE - Coil Swap:Magnivox to Delco

Ok, so I finally replaced those coils that I have been wanting to do FOREVER! I did this swap like last friday, but did not get around to importing the pics from my camera until now. So there you have it. I will get better pics and replace them with these later.

I took the packs apart and cleaned them before I installed them, they look alot better, but jees, there is so much dust in the air, they got dirty again. Funny thing is, when I took them apart, I put the mounting plate on the wrong way...HA, i was like half-way through the whole thing and then I discover that, do I had to take them back apart and all that jazz. When I was done, the car fired right up, strong as always. And so I let er warm up for a couple mins and took her out to the highway and went WOT. WOAH THERE...now I cant explain this one but she used to shift at 4600 WOT but now she shifts at 5200 wot lol, really dont know what to make of it. With the Magnivox coils she used to sound like she was choking on gas just a bit for some reason, and now...SHE SOUNDS STRONG...made a BIG difference, oh and the best part? I jumped from about 24 avg MPG to about 27-28 avg MPG. WOO HOO!!!

AND

AND, this is stock exhaust...MAN, i love that sound, imagine if i had a prf exhaust

F14 Crazy: umm, ok, but u have something ON that LN3 thats a hell of alot faster...lol

HaroFreak00: Good,, glad u like the pics..

JR's3800: Hah, heck yes it was. They RULE! And about the exaust, umm well it does have a new cat...everything else regarding exhaust is old, but everything from the manifold to just past the cat is new..it was like that when i bought it.

DarkShadow: umm yeah, R-12 indeed. It runs COLD. I was just using it today. It seems to be getting weaker though. To have it retrofitted for R-134a so I have to have the dealer do it? Is R134a as cold as R12?

I am taking it for a trans flush next week...then i will go to the manual car wash, clean the engine bay and then wash and wax her. ALSO, please someone tell me, what should i not get wet? I know the alt, obviously, but what else? Do I have to wait for it to cool?

Very cool. hey let me know how that goes, I want to know if it is still as cold..and i want to know what the bill was. I know r-12 is basically extinct and i think it might be illegal to use it, but does anyone know where to get some more?

hey mike post a couple of ur pics, i wanna make this kinda a complete reference for 88-91 coil swaps...lol...

and i thought it was gonna be hard

R-12 is illegal- but it can be replaced with Duracool. im lucky as I know someone who works for GM so Im getting a deal on the conversion. But my compressor is fried. SO that will be the most expensive component. I'll do a post when its all done.
