Well, the first thing that jumps out at me is that you seem to think that adjusting your TV cable will somehow change your final drive ratio. You only change your shift points by adjusting that, not your cruising RPM. The gears determine that.

Or maybe I misunderstood your question there...

Actually, no. The first thing that jumped out at me was the complete lack of periods, commas, capitalization, or other helpful punctuation in your post. Made it a bit hard do read.

If you could improve on that, that would be great, for the future. You'll make it easier for us to help you...

Looks like you have a decent start on doing a tuneup on your car, which is a good start to upping your mileage. I'd suggest a couple of things that you didn't mention:

- Spark plugs, if they're old, or if they're Bosch Platinums.
- Oxygen sensor, if it'* really old, or if it'* a Bosch.
- Maybe spark plug wires, if they are original, or extremely cheap replacenemts.
- Maybe clean the TB.

Also make sure that your torque converter is locking up when it should be. Your slight exhaust leak will come in handy here, since you can hear the engine RPMs (unless you have a tach, which it sounds like you might).

Just how bad is your mileage, anyway? What kind of driving?

Default mpg

When was you last major tune up, filters, plugs etc.
Some Other things that kill mpg are bad wheel alignments , and front calipers that are sticking. Tire pressure should be looked at as well as adding a bottle of fuel injection cleaner.

Ok, lets go over a VERY clear checklist here just to confirm.

Plugs (Delco, NGK or Autolite) -
Wires (Delco, Napa Belden, or Autolite Pro) -
Clean MAF sensor element -
o2 sensor (last 30k miles/Delco or Denso) -
Tire pressure -
Uneven Alignment -
Dragging Brakes -
Air Filter (Purolator or K&N) -
Excessive jackrabbit starts from stop -
Excessive cargo load in vehicle -
Excessive carbon build up in cylinders (use seafoam) -

etc. not sure if i forgot anything

Sounds like he'* referring to a binding caliper.

Take off your calipers, compress the pistons, regrease the slider pins really well and then reinstall, check for mobility on the pins by sliding back and forth. if the piston wont compress, replace the caliper.

ok, fix those brakes and alignment and you should be much better.

my car averages 26.5 mpg currently, but when my brakes were dragging, i averaged 11mpg. scary decrease with those bad brakes.

Yeah, between the dragging brakes and the alignment that might be off, it'* no mystery that the mileage hasn't been good. Especially the brakes.

Probably just some dry slides. Fixing those should help a ton.
