Default Stalling While Idling Low Parking & Accellerating Going

Hi All! New to the group but really need help :o

I have a 1990 Bonneville LE. Over the past few weeks it has run rough and the RPM gauge has been intermittently working (going to 0 even though car is accelerating fine). In the past two days it has been stalling. I have to give it a good 40-80 seconds before it will startup again.

It stalls while in the parking lot, it stalls while accellerating on the highway. I've checked the computer and there are no error codes registering.

I replaced the sparkplugs and cables yesterday but am still having the same issue. Not sure if the RPM gauge problem is even related.

Anyone have any ideas? All posts appreciated.

Sounds like a vacum leak, check all the hoses.
Look in tech info for a guide on how to remove the gauge cluster and clean the connections, might help your tach out?

Loose connector to the ICM. Hands down. Pull it [I want to say it'* a 6mm bolt.. but I don't know off hand, it'* a small one, that'* for sure], clean all contacts, put some die-electric grease on there. Tighten snug [no need to overdue it. The bolt MUST be tightened for the connector to seat properly, you cannot just push it on like most other connectors.

Thanks guys.

Just got back from checking for gas in the fuel pressure regulator'* vac hose but no gase (was suggested in the newsgroups). Did this while it was off - should car be running?

Anyways, going to remove the ICM bolt and clean see if that makes a difference. Could also be a bad wire in one of the connections leading to it? Anyways, will try. Then move on to hose troubleshooting.

Yeah, it could be one bad wire, but the ICM controls the tach, and you said it stalls intermittently. The only thing that can be both, is the ICM or a ground, but a ground would kill the engine if the tach went out [ECU and ICM use same grounds {don't forget, the ICM controls the tach}].

Removed and reconnected the ICM but the bolt was really tight before... will take for test drive and see what happens now.
