Code 46 - Power steering
I've just recently started getting code 46 - Power steering circuit switch.
How serious is it and what is it the actually problem likely to be? The power steering seems to be working fine right now.

How about telling us what year and trim level you have?
Only 87-93 use two-digit codes, and they aren't all the same. What year is it, and how did you scan for codes?

Apologies, I forgot that. For some reason I thought I had it in my signature.
It'* a 1988 SSE. I checked for codes using the bent paperclip method.
Incidentally I spilt a little brake fluid while topping it up at the reservior shortly before I got this code for the first time. Don't know if it dripped on something it shouldn't and that could have triggered it?
