Default how do i get the starter off?

i know where it is, how it is attached, but i just can't get it done.

i cant reach the bolt heads (two attaching vertically)
if i do reach them, i don't see how that starter is going to fit out...
i think the exhaust manifold need to come out, maybe the cooling fans, then lift the motor as far as the mounts will let it go...

the car quit starting, i can hear the solenoid click, but the flywheel doesnt spin.
i'm guessing stripped bendix, or flywheel tooth missing

a) click/no turn is as apt to be the solenoid. Missing tooth or stripped bendix and will hear spin.

b) just replaced the solenoid on our 90 Bonne and is trivial. It does help to have a 1.5" extension for the front bolt and a 9" extension (or a 6" and a 3") for the rear one. 15mm socket AFAIR.

c) at first it seems like it does not move far enough back to clear the snout before it gets into the a/c tubes but if you remove the wires first then pull it out it will wiggle/rotate just enough.

d) not certain why you would get into the manifold, the starter comes out the bottom.

Best & easiest way is to first remove the Cooling fans. Once the rear Flywheel inspection cover is off, you'll be able to get the Starter bolts better too. Once you get it un-bolted, you need to twist it until the starter squeeeeeeezes through the opening in the exhaust manifold. Hold your mouth right & try not to close your eyes! Don't forget about the "Shims" either!

Do we have two different starter mounts here ? On both my 88 and 90 "C" (SE Bonneville) 3800 it is trivial - just comes out the bottom & did not need to remove anything else.

ok guys, now i am sure this car hates me.
i went out there today to see if it *might* start to get it on ramps.
it cranks like normal now. i still dont see how i can get this thing apart, but maybe i can see it better once it gets up in the air...

i'm really not used to the front crossmember being there and it severely limits my veiwing of the area...
