I need some new tires before the snow comes for good, and I don't want to spend too much. Performance isn't a priority for this car. They need to be reasonably good in snow, rain, and dry. Preferably not too harsh riding or noisy.

I've had good experience with Cooper tires. Two local Cooper dealers recommend the Cooper Lifeliner Classic II. They say that the Cooper Lifeliner SLE is more of a touring tire, and wouldn't be so good in the snow. http://www.coopertire.com/us/en/imag.../classicII.jpg

Right now, I'm leaning toward the Lifeliner II'*. I can get four, mounted, balanced, and taxed, for $300. Which is also about all that I'm willing to spend.

I'm sure that anything will be better than my ancient Goodyear Invicta GS'*, but I want to make an educated decision, ya know?

May look into Goodyear Assuances......Awesome tires, and maybe with the small size....you could do it for about 300....maybe a few bux more.....These are the next set of shoes my baby'* gettin soon....After she can drive straight of course. hahaha

BFG Traction TA'* have performed well on my car. I did a lot of research on Tirerack.com and finally decided on these. The tread design is great for all types of traction, road noise is quiet, and they are affordable for the mileage rating (70,000 I believe). I put these on the front of my car so far just to try them out before getting 4, now I know for sure I'll be getting two more once my back tires wear out. I think the space between the treat blocks will be good for snow, and they have enough small tread areas to be good on ice too.

How much did 2 cost you?

I looked at the Goodyear assurances, and they're quite a bit more $$$, at least around here.

Not sure about those BFG'*... May have to look into those...

Okay, just went to tirerack.com, and they don't list those BFG'* as an option for me. Maybe not in my size, or no longer made? Ah well. We shall see...

I got two "BFG Traction T/A T" tires for $146.19 shipped, that will put it right at your limit by the time you get them mounted. Check with your local goodyear if they don't make your size anymore, they may still have some in stock. My size was 215/65R15. You may even try to haggle at your local shop if they have some since they are an "old model"

I found my size listed above on the tire rack website, what size are you looking for? Under the section that says "shop for tires" there is a link that says "search your tire size" they are on about the third page of results.

yeah I'm going to the Traction T/A'* ...but V rated... I'm also going from 205/70/14 to 245/50/16 on 16x7 stock bonne mesh rims

so the cost I'm looking at will be quite alot higher then your $300 US limit/goal

you might want to look into Kuhmo 405'* ...and the estca 712'*(for the life if me I can't remeber the brand) ... they are good cheap tires... usually the only time I hear bad things about them is when they are pushed very hard... on high power ... or heavy cars.(freind of mine with a 325 hp 80'* Fbody runs 712'* and loves em... they handle very well in the wet, and dry and he can still break em loose when HE wants too)

make that Hankook H405 and Kumho 712s

I did see that the Kumho tires rated really well, but... well... they looked funky. And I'd have to buy them without actually seeing them in person. And they're Korean, I think. Like Hyundai, and Kia. (shudder)

It looks like it'll be the Cooper lifeliner classic II'* for me. I've got them on order from the local dealer. Unless they're really gosh awful ugly or crappy looking in person, that'* what I'll have.

Just to let know anyone who cares... I got the cooper lifeliner II'* this morning. They ran me $294.40 for four of them, out the door. So far they seem to be good. The handling isn't quite as crisp, but then the old tires didn't have much tread left to distort anymore. On the plus side, they seem to actually hold the road better. The old goodyears were starting to squeal around corners, especially if I let the air pressure go down at all, or pump them up too high. Very sensitive to that for some reason. Anyway, these don't do that. They might be a little noisier, but again, they actually have tread, so I guess that'* to be expected. Ride quality seems good.

I haven't had them on the highway yet, maybe tonight. I'm optimistic that they will take care of the slight vibration that I occasionally have at 70 mph.

Now then, bring on the snow!

UPDATE: They did take care of the vibration. Which makes me happy, since I don't have to consider other, more involved, explanations.
