Tonight I need to set up a spread sheet to document my estimated daily travel in order to keep track of basic servicing needs of my car.
I have also set up a new savings account in order to save for my new 97 SSEi.
What an b*tch this is proving to be....maybe when it warms up and all will be fixed again...sigh..I dunno

Fuddy, I think the instrument panel cluster is a separate item from this unit that the dealer was describing. Or maybe I'm wrong....
I didn't realize that I'd have to change the whole cluster to fix this odo/trip thing.

accually you dont have to replace the whole cluster. i have been in my cluster, and the trip/odometer is on there with just 4 screws and a plug. it comes out really easy.the trip and odometer are on the same little bar, when one turns the other turns, thats why they both have stopped working. everything is moved by a little motor, that is connected with little gears behind each number. it is really difficult to mess with it all. you should just replace the whole section of the trip/odometer. i have spent a lot of time inside these clusters.my trip quit working, and it took the odomet out with it too, i just ended up being a gear missing a tooth.

That makes sense Devon thanks.
I'll be making my way to the wrecker as soon as the weather improves. Any money saved is helpful.
Good work everyone, I feel better about this whole problem now. I just hate it when things don't work the way they should, whether it is one day old or 15 years old, like my car

Latest Update:
I went to the wreckers and just bought used instrument cluster. Its off of an 88 SE. Its exactly the same except for one difference.
The odometer in my car reads 181 941km this one read an *** whomping 320 565km!!!!
My car just got slighty older really quick. And its illegal and very difficult roll back the clock to make it match. DAMN!!! The only people that will ever want to buy my car now are my friends or people on this forum who know the story behind my trip and odo. :(

Good selling point, right, but in all honesty some stranger isn't going to buy my car anyway. I have had to much interest from my friends and members on this board actually that would take my car.
I'm keeping my old cluster which has 181 941 listed...I know what my car has....and I need everything to work, regardless of what the numbers say.
The bonus for me is: I'll sell the car for parts if no one wants it, and I'll take off the head unit, all the interior lights, the front speakers and my muffler and tip. No one is getting those at a junkyard

Yup...
I'm goin to leave the office earlier today and see if my Midas friends wanna do it. Shouldn't be too bad. I'd do it, but I don't wanna mess around with the wiring.
Oh, ya, my coolant temp gage is dead..so MAYBE...just maybe, this new cluster will have a coolantl gage that functions. Fingers crossed.
I'll let you know how it goes.
